ZOE Kravitz shocked herself and her Lolawolf bandmates when she busted out her inner Beyonce during their opening performance on the Miley Cyrus tour this week.

Kravitz, the talented daughter of rocker Lenny and actress Lisa Bonet, formed the Brooklyn electronic r&b band with James Levy and Jimmy Giaonnopoulus last year.

“When I first started singing in rock bands, I used to hide behind the mic,” Kravitz said.

“But when we played the first show with Miley in Brisbane this week, I got my booty out and was dancing around, things I don’t usually do.

“We were all ‘What the f …?’ was that after the show. I felt like I was Beyonce or something.”

Lolawolf have quickly generated big buzz on the indie scene and were hand-picked by Cyrus to join her on the Australian leg of her Bangerz world tour.

Kravitz explained she had reached out to her friend Cyrus hoping to score an introduction to Lily Allen, whose work she also admired.

“I asked Miley if she could put us in touch with Lily Allen because we wanted to get on her tour,” she said.

“She said she would do it but she also wanted us to open for her in Australia.”

Cyrus sent them an offer the next day.

“She doesn’t talk s …,” Kravitz said.

And she has been talking Lolawolf up during her own sets, recommending her thousands of Australian fans get behind the innovative trio.

Partly recorded at her family home in the Bahamas, Lolawolf’s debut record Stay Calm is released in Australia this week before the rest of the world.

Kravitz, who will star in the Mad Max: Fury Road reboot next year, said she hopes to be able to continue to juggle both creative pursuits.

“The demand for Lolawolf is changing with the amount of attention and opportunities the band is getting now,” she said.

In true Miley Cyrus fashion, she spits and sprays water over the audience at her Melbourne show.

“It comes in waves but it is great just to get the album out here in time for the tour.”

Her father Lenny has been a vocal supporter of her musical talent.

“This will sound really cheesy, but I’m really into my daughter’s band right now. Lolawolf,” he said recently.

“I’ve been going to the shows. It’s my kid, but I promise you I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true. I went to a show in Brooklyn. Anne Hathaway was there. She’s like, ‘I follow your daughter on the internet and I love her music.’”

His daughter is equally complimentary of his return-to-form record Strut, released last month.

“It’s a solid rock record and not too many people are doing that right now,” she said.

Lolawolf also played a set at Oxford Art Factory’s 7th birthday gig on Friday night after opening for Cyrus.
